About

About Coatwise

Coatwise turns room measurements into a clear, professional painting estimate in about a minute.

Who it's for

Independent painters and small painting companies in the US who want to send clean estimates without paying for a full field-service software subscription. Homeowners use it too, to sanity-check the quotes they receive.

How it calculates

Every number on an estimate comes from a formula you can check:

• Wall area is the room's perimeter times its height, minus 21 sq ft per door and 15 sq ft per window.
• Paint is figured separately for walls and ceilings, rounded up to whole gallons.
• Labor uses your own rate per square foot. Sales tax applies to materials only, which is common for residential repaints but varies by state.

The pricing guide walks through a full example.

What it doesn't do

Coatwise is a calculator, not legal, tax, or financial advice. Contract requirements, licensing, deposit limits, and sales tax rules differ by state. Check them with your state's contractor board and revenue department, and adjust your estimate terms to match.
